Ingredients

  • 2 medium Honeycrisp or Gala apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • as needed cooking spray
  • 1/4 cup hot honey
  • 2 Tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. 1Peel, core, and dice the apples into 1/4-inch pieces; pat dry with a paper towel so excess moisture does not thin the batter.
  2. 2In a medium bowl whisk flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. 3In a small bowl beat the egg with milk, vanilla, and melted butter. Pour wet into dry and stir just until a thick batter forms; fold in the diced apples.
  4. 4Preheat air fryer to 350°F for 3 minutes. Lightly spray the basket. Using a small cookie scoop or two spoons, drop heaping tablespoons of batter into the basket, spacing them apart; spray tops lightly.
  5. 5Air-fry 6 minutes, flip carefully, spray again, and cook another 4–6 minutes until deep golden brown, puffed, and cooked through at the center.
  6. 6Transfer fritters to a wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter, working in batches so the basket is never crowded.
  7. 7Warm the hot honey until fluid. Drizzle generously over the warm fritters and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
  8. 8Serve immediately while crisp outside and tender inside. Best eaten the same day.
