About us

We met at Florida State. The app came later.

On the second day of orientation in 2001, Daniel and Jessica Kuykendall met. She went on to fashion and running a company. He went on to apps and film. PlatePilot is the first app they have made side by side. The idea was hers. The design is his.

Daniel Kuykendall

Games, apps, ads, and film

Daniel loves design, and he loves games. He likes making something you understand the moment you pick it up. In 2014 he founded BitTsar and created 13 apps for iPhone and the web. He also ran a commercial and advertising production company, the work brands put in front of people. Then he built The Survival Summit, teaching survival skills through film. He produced more than 26 of those films. He sold the company in 2022, and it is still running today.

He lives with type 1 diabetes, so what he eats is part of taking care of himself, every day. He wanted a kitchen app that took that seriously and still felt good to open. A lot of how PlatePilot looks comes from that.

Fashion, fitness, and the spark

Jessica studied fashion design at Florida State and spent years making original pieces, clothes that were hers alone. She liked the beauty. She also liked the harder part, making something a person could really wear. She still looks at work that way. It should be lovely, and it should hold up in real life.

These days she owns a managed IT company and runs it as chief operating officer. She loves to train, and she is serious about eating well. She wanted an app for that kind of week, and she could see it before it existed. PlatePilot was her idea. Daniel brought the way he designs everything else. It is the first app they have built together.
