PlatePilot (“we”, “our”, “the app”) helps you plan meals, shop smarter, and cook. This policy explains what personal information we collect and how we use it.
Information we collect
We intentionally keep personal data minimal:
- Name — so the app can address you and label your profile.
- Email — to identify your account (passwordless; no password stored).
- ZIP / postal code — only to estimate regional produce seasons and related features. We do not require or store a full street address for your account.
Depending on how you use the app, your device may also process (often only on-device or ephemerally):
- Location (when you allow it) — nearby grocery stores and drive-time estimates.
- Camera / photos (when you allow it) — recipe or dish capture.
- Microphone / speech (when you allow it) — voice shopping lists.
- Push notification token (when you allow notifications) — e.g. meal-plan ready alerts.
- App usage events — product analytics to fix issues and improve features (not sold for advertising).
- Recipes, shopping lists, meal plans, preferences — stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your personal iCloud (CloudKit). Server AI features may receive recipe text you choose to send.
How we use information
- Provide core features (profile, regional produce, AI cooking help, shopping tools).
- Operate and secure our cloud API.
- Improve reliability (diagnostics and product analytics).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising tracking.
AI processing
When you use PlatePilot Recipe features (discover, adapt, chat, meal plan, images), relevant recipe text and prompts are processed by our cloud infrastructure and language-model providers to generate results. Do not submit information you do not want processed for that purpose. Suggestions are for cooking inspiration—not medical advice.
Where data is stored
- On your device — preferences, lists, favorites, and session tokens.
- iCloud (optional) — sync of your cookbooks/lists when iCloud is available.
- PlatePilot servers — account profile fields (name, email, ZIP) and operational data for AI jobs and analytics.
- Website CDN logs — when you visit platepilotrecipes.com, our content delivery network records standard access logs (including IP address, URL, and user agent) for security and traffic measurement. Logs expire after about 90 days and are not sold for advertising.
- Website usage counters — the site may send anonymous counts (for example: page opens, Browse searches, recipe opens, waitlist taps) to our servers so we can understand what visitors look for. These are not sold for advertising and are not tied to your name or email unless you separately join the waitlist.
Your choices
- Permissions — deny or revoke camera, photos, microphone, location, and notifications in iOS Settings.
- Delete Account — in the app go to Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your server profile (name, email, ZIP) and clears personal data on that device. Shared public recipe content in the PlatePilot archive is not personal account data and is not deleted.
Children
PlatePilot is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
