Ingredients

  • 3 cups chocolate ice cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup malted milk powder
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • 2 maraschino cherries
  • 2 tbsp chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. 1Chill two tall milkshake glasses in the freezer for at least 10 minutes so they frost up and keep the shake cold longer.
  2. 2Add the chocolate ice cream to a high-powered blender first so it forms the creamy base.
  3. 3Pour in the whole milk the ice cream to help everything blend smoothly without overworking the motor.
  4. 4Sprinkle the malted milk powder and unsweetened cocoa powder over the top so they distribute evenly once blending starts.
  5. 5Drizzle the chocolate syrup and vanilla extract into the blender jar.
  6. 6Drop in the ice cubes to thicken the shake and give it that classic frosty texture.
  7. 7Blend on medium speed for 20 to 30 seconds until the mixture is thick, smooth, and pourable with no ice chunks remaining; stop and scrape down the sides once if needed.
  8. 8Check the consistency—if it is too thick to pour, pulse in a splash more milk; if too thin, add another scoop of ice cream and blend briefly.
  9. 9Remove the chilled glasses from the freezer and divide the shake evenly between them.
  10. 10Top each glass with a generous swirl of whipped cream.
  11. 11Finish with a maraschino cherry on each and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings over the cream.
  12. 12Serve immediately with wide straws and long spoons so the malt flavor hits first.
