Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
  • 6 wooden popsicle sticks
  • 1 package (11 oz) soft caramels
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles
  • for setting parchment paper

Instructions

  1. 1Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove stems and insert a wooden stick firmly into the stem end of each apple, pushing halfway in.
  2. 2Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Have chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips, and sprinkles ready in shallow bowls for topping.
  3. 3Unwrap the soft caramels and place them in a medium microwave-safe bowl with the heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until completely melted and smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes total.
  4. 4Stir the vanilla extract into the melted caramel until fully incorporated. Let the mixture cool 1 to 2 minutes so it thickens slightly but remains pourable.
  5. 5Working one at a time, tilt the bowl and dip each apple, turning to coat evenly almost to the stick. Allow excess caramel to drip back into the bowl.
  6. 6Immediately roll or sprinkle the bottom half of each caramel-coated apple in your choice of chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips, or festive sprinkles before the caramel sets.
  7. 7Place the finished apples upright on the parchment-lined sheet. If caramel pools at the base, gently reshape with a spatula.
  8. 8Refrigerate the apples for at least 30 minutes until the caramel is firm and set. For longer storage, wrap individually in cellophane.
  9. 9Bring to room temperature 10 minutes before serving so the caramel softens slightly for easier biting.
  10. 10These classic treats are pure Halloween nostalgia and perfect for make-ahead party trays or backyard gatherings.
