Ingredients
- 6 medium tart apples
- 8 tablespoons butter
- 0.75 cup brown sugar
- 4 cups cubed day-old bread
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- 1Peel, core, and slice the apples.
- 2Melt butter in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat.
- 3Add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cider vinegar, and salt, then cook for 5 minutes until the apples begin to soften.
- 4Toss the bread cubes with the remaining melted butter.
- 5Scatter the buttered bread over the apples, cover, and cook on low heat for 15 minutes until the bread is soaked and the apples are tender.
- 6Uncover and cook 5 minutes more to crisp the top slightly.
- 7Spoon into bowls and serve warm with heavy cream poured over.
