Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup benne seeds
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup honey

Instructions

  1. 1Toast benne seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant and lightly golden then cool.
  2. 2Cream butter with brown sugar, beat in egg, vanilla, and salt, then mix in flour and cooled benne seeds to form a soft dough.
  3. 3Roll dough thin between parchment, cut into 3-inch wafers, and bake at 350°F on lined sheets for 10-12 minutes until crisp and edges are golden.
  4. 4Cool wafers completely then serve drizzled generously with honey.
