Ingredients

  • 24 pieces frozen pork or chicken dumplings
  • 3 cups marinara or meat sauce
  • 1.5 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2.5 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil or green onion
  • for pan olive oil or cooking spray
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili crisp optional

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly oil a 9x13-inch baking dish so the bottom layer releases cleanly.
  2. 2In a bowl, stir ricotta with the egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, half the Parmesan, and a spoonful of soy sauce until smooth and slightly salty-savory. This bridges Italian lasagna and dumpling filling flavors.
  3. 3Spread a thin layer of marinara across the bottom of the dish. Arrange a single layer of frozen dumplings snugly side by side—no need to thaw—pressing them gently into the sauce.
  4. 4Dollop half the ricotta mixture over the dumplings and spread gently. Spoon more marinara over the ricotta, then sprinkle a generous layer of mozzarella.
  5. 5Add a second layer of dumplings, the remaining ricotta, more sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan. Finish with a light drizzle of chili crisp if you want heat.
  6. 6Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake 30 minutes so the dumplings steam through and the sauce bubbles at the edges.
  7. 7Remove the foil and bake uncovered 12 to 15 minutes more until the cheese is golden in spots and the top is bubbling vigorously.
  8. 8Rest the bake 10 minutes so the layers set and slices hold together. Scatter fresh basil or sliced green onion over the top.
  9. 9Cut into squares and serve with extra warm marinara on the side. Leftovers reheat cleanly for meal prep lunches the next day.
