Ingredients

  • 4 slices soft white sandwich bread
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 small banana optional banana slices

Instructions

  1. 1Set out the bread slices on a clean cutting board so they come to cool room temperature and stay soft for spreading.
  2. 2Using a butter knife, spread a generous even layer of creamy peanut butter all the way to the edges on two of the bread slices.
  3. 3On the remaining two bread slices, spread an equally generous layer of marshmallow fluff, again reaching the edges so every bite is balanced.
  4. 4If using banana, peel and slice it into thin rounds and arrange a single layer over the peanut butter side for extra creaminess and classic New England flair.
  5. 5Carefully sandwich each peanut-butter slice with a fluff-topped slice, pressing gently so the fillings meet without squeezing out the sides.
  6. 6Optional but highly recommended for weeknight nostalgia: melt the salted butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until foaming subsides.
  7. 7Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet and toast 2 to 3 minutes per side until the bread is deep golden and the fluff just begins to warm and soften.
  8. 8Transfer to a cutting board, let rest 30 seconds so the filling sets slightly, then slice each sandwich diagonally.
  9. 9Serve immediately while the contrast of cool fluff and warm toast is at its peak; no extra garnish needed.
