Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
- 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- for topping whipped cream
- for garnish chocolate shavings
- 1 pinch pinch of salt
Instructions
- 1Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until it is steaming and small bubbles form the edges, about 3 to 4 minutes; do not let it boil.
- 2Whisk the cocoa powder, sugar, and pinch of salt together in a separate small bowl until no lumps remain.
- 3Pour a splash of the hot milk into the cocoa mixture and stir into a smooth paste so the powder fully dissolves.
- 4Return the cocoa paste to the saucepan with the remaining milk and whisk vigorously until fully combined and slightly frothy.
- 5Stir in the chocolate chips and continue whisking over medium-low heat until the chips melt completely and the mixture turns glossy and thick, about 2 minutes.
- 6Add the hot brewed coffee or espresso and vanilla extract, then whisk again until the mocha is uniform in color and steaming hot.
- 7Taste and adjust sweetness if needed, then divide the latte evenly between two mugs.
- 8Top each mug with a generous swirl of whipped cream and finish with chocolate shavings.
- 9Serve immediately while hot so the cream slowly melts into the deep coffee-chocolate drink.
