Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (plain)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 tomato slices
- 4 red onion slices
- 2 tbsp (optional) ketchup or mustard
Instructions
- 1In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 2Using clean hands, gently mix until just combined—do not overmix to keep the burgers juicy.
- 3Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about ½-inch thick. Make a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing.
- 4Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat (about 375–400°F).
- 5Lightly brush both sides of the patties with olive oil.
- 6Place patties on the grill and cook for 5–6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- 7During the last 2 minutes, toast the whole wheat buns on the grill if desired.
- 8Remove patties from grill and let rest 2 minutes.
- 9Assemble burgers: place a patty on each bun bottom, top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and condiments as desired.
- 10Serve immediately with a side salad or fries.
