Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (plain)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 tomato slices
  • 4 red onion slices
  • 2 tbsp (optional) ketchup or mustard

Instructions

  1. 1In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. 2Using clean hands, gently mix until just combined—do not overmix to keep the burgers juicy.
  3. 3Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about ½-inch thick. Make a small dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing.
  4. 4Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat (about 375–400°F).
  5. 5Lightly brush both sides of the patties with olive oil.
  6. 6Place patties on the grill and cook for 5–6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. 7During the last 2 minutes, toast the whole wheat buns on the grill if desired.
  8. 8Remove patties from grill and let rest 2 minutes.
  9. 9Assemble burgers: place a patty on each bun bottom, top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and condiments as desired.
  10. 10Serve immediately with a side salad or fries.
