Skillet Dried-Apple Crisp with Brown Sugar

Skillet Dried-Apple Crisp with Brown Sugar

Coffee-plumped dried apples bake under a brown-sugar lard crumble with a pinch of black pepper in cast iron. This skillet crisp recalls Cast Iron on the Chisholm, where chuckwagon cooks woke the mesquite coals before the cattle drive.
