Witch-Finger Breadsticks
Halloween tables love a little theater, and Witch-Finger Breadsticks deliver it with almond “nails” pressed into slender, garlicky loaves. Soft, herbed dough bakes golden for dunking in marinara—an American party side that’s playfully creepy without the fuss.

Ingredients
- 2.25 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup (110°F) warm water
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp, divided olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- 1, beaten egg
- 18 pieces sliced almonds
- 1 cup marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let stand 5 to 8 minutes until foamy and active.
- 2Stir in olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Gradually add the flour, mixing with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
- 3Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead 5 to 6 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 45 minutes until doubled.
- 4Punch down the dough and divide into 18 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin rope about 6 to 7 inches long, tapering one end slightly for a fingertip look.
- 5Place the ropes on two parchment-lined baking sheets. Use a knife to gently press three shallow knuckle lines across each breadstick. Press one sliced almond firmly onto the tapered end as a fingernail.
- 6Brush each breadstick lightly with the beaten egg for shine and color. Cover loosely and let rest 15 minutes while the oven preheats to 400°F.
- 7Bake at 400°F for 12 to 15 minutes, rotating pans halfway, until golden brown and firm to the touch with crisp edges.
- 8While still warm, brush the breadsticks with the remaining olive oil for flavor and sheen. Arrange on a platter so they look like spooky witch fingers.
- 9Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping. These are best fresh but can be reheated briefly in a 350°F oven.
- 10Kids and adults both go for the playful shape, making them a crowd-pleasing Halloween side or appetizer.
