Ingredients
- 2 cans (8 count each) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough with icing
- 4 large baking apples
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish so the casserole releases cleanly later.
- 2Peel, core, and dice the apples into half-inch pieces, then toss them in a large bowl with the lemon juice to keep them bright.
- 3Sprinkle the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour over the apples and stir until every piece is evenly coated and slightly glossy.
- 4Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until foamy, then stir in the vanilla and remove from heat.
- 5Open the cinnamon roll cans, separate the rolls, and cut each roll into six bite-size pieces so the dough will bake up fluffy and swirl throughout.
- 6Scatter half the cinnamon roll pieces across the bottom of the prepared dish, then spoon the spiced apple mixture evenly over them.
- 7Nestle the remaining cinnamon roll pieces on top of the apples, drizzle the melted butter mixture over everything, and sprinkle the chopped pecans across the surface.
- 8Bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes until the dough is golden brown, the apples are tender when pierced, and the filling is actively bubbling at the edges.
- 9Warm the included icing packets briefly in hot water, then whisk in the heavy cream until pourable and smooth.
- 10Drizzle the thinned icing generously over the hot casserole so it melts into the cinnamon swirls and apple pockets.
- 11Let the casserole rest 10 minutes so the juices thicken slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm while the pastry is still soft and fragrant.
