Often linked to late-1800s American country clubs, the club sandwich stacks comfort between toasted bread. Crisp bacon, roasted turkey, lettuce, tomato, and mayo make this triple-decker a lunchtime classic.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices white sandwich bread
  • 12 oz roasted turkey breast
  • 12 slices bacon
  • 8 romaine lettuce leaves
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 cheddar cheese slices
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 16 toothpicks

Instructions

  1. 1Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 8 minutes. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  2. 2Wash and dry the romaine lettuce leaves. Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  3. 3Toast all slices of bread until golden brown.
  4. 4Spread mayonnaise evenly on one side of each toasted bread slice (per slice).
  5. 5For each sandwich, start with a slice of toast (mayo side up). Layer 1 lettuce leaf, 2-3 tomato slices, salt and pepper.
  6. 6Add a second slice of toast (mayo side up). Layer sliced turkey, cheddar cheese, and slices of bacon.
  7. 7Top with a third slice of toast (mayo side down).
  8. 8Secure the sandwich by inserting toothpicks in a square pattern through all layers.
  9. 9Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich diagonally into 4 triangular quarters.
  10. 10Repeat steps 5-9 for the remaining 3 sandwiches.
  11. 11Serve immediately with fries or chips if desired.
